Liquid-Processed Solid-State Li-metal Battery: Development of upscale materials, processes and architectures.

Durable batteries with very high performance and intelligent features will play a central role in the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energies. Conventional lithium-ion batteries use a liquid electrolyte. Solid-state lithium-ion batteries, or solid-state lithium-metal batteries, use a solid electrolyte and lithium metal as the battery’s anode. These batteries are attracting growing interest because of their low cost, high performance and improved safety, but they are far from being commercially viable.

The EU-funded SOLiDIFY project is developing materials and manufacturing processes with this objective in mind. It will enable the integration of a solid nanocomposite electrolyte and the manufacture of a new generation of solid lithium-metal batteries.
